Unless you have a sound working knowledge of building construction, it would be advisable to:

- obtain professional advice from an architect, structural engineer or a building surveyor before the work commences;

- choose a recognised builder to carry out your work;

- seek advice from the Local Authority Building Control Officer or an Approved Inspector in advance.
